An earring design featuring three delicate flowers of recycled Sterling Silver, or Copper with a red flame-oxidised finish, hanging on a recycled Sterling Silver hook. Based on the native New Zealand Makomako flower, each tiny bloom moves independently and dangles freely from the ear, making them a delight to wear.
The Makomako (Wineberry) is a small fast growing tree or shrub that grows throughout New Zealand. It has distinctive, pretty flowers that are coloured from cream to dark red.
The Makomako plant was used in a variety of ways by both Maori and Europeans. It was used as a salve for wounds, as a dye, as food and a sweet juice and the shoots were burnt into charcoal for making gunpowder!
