One hundred house sparrows were released in the late 1860s to tackle crop pests. That didn’t work out. They soon decided that hanging out near humans and stealing our food was a better gig and they flourished. Sparrows are now are everywhere in NZ except for our high mountains and bush. They’re a social bird and like to hang out in groups, singing and taking dust baths. This lovely life-sized pair will look gorgeous in your backyard with uninterrupted blue sky behind.
